Landscape fuel treatments and wildland fire management strategies within recent large fire events

In this 1-hour webinar, we will present findings from a recently completed study, which was funded by the Joint Fire Science Program, on landscape fuel treatment effectiveness within recent large wildfire events in north-central Washington State. We will first provide an overview of climate change and wildfires and the imperative for broad-scale adaptive management to increase landscape and community resilience to future wildfires. We will then report our findings on the effects of prior fuel reduction treatments, biophysical environment, and weather on fire severity. Our study also evaluated fireline effectiveness and how past fuel treatments assisted in safe and effective response. We will conclude the webinar with those findings with time at the end for an open discussion.
