Better understanding how fires respond to climate variability is an issue of current interest in light of ongoing climate change. However, evaluating the global-scale temporal variability of fires in response to climate presents a challenge due to the intricate processes at play and the limitation of fire data.
Destructive wildfire disasters are escalating globally, challenging existing fire management paradigms. The establishment of defensible space around homes in wildland and rural urban interfaces can help to reduce the risk of house loss and provide a safe area for residents and firefighters to defend the property from wildfire.
Forests are a large carbon sink and could serve as natural climate solutions that help moderatefuture warming. Thus, establishing forest carbon baselines is essential for tracking climate‐mitigation targets.Western US forests are natural climate solution hotspots but are profoundly threatened by drought and altereddisturbance regimes.

The theme “The Resources We Manage” references all the considerations that forestry and natural resources professionals need to reflect on when planning and implementing decisions on the ground. Resources mean many things to land managers -- the values on the landscape, the services needed like air, water, food and fiber, the budget we work within, the tools we use, and t
